They have a beautiful church and many local sourced goods. We appreciate their fishery, bakery, restaurant, flower store, and gift shop. The fact that they make their own beer liquor and much more was so surprising! Will absolutely stop by again, love to support them.
Well worth the visit.
Very nice restaurant on site, plus a nice shop.
Make sure to check the visit hours.
The bier is great! The apple cider was not good - very skunky. The liquor was so-so, I didn’t expect it to be so herbal. Very cloves and anise heavy. We haven’t tried the beer-liquor yet. I was surprised that the ‘Abby’ beer is actually made in Belgium.
About as close as you can get to the Vatican City as you can get in the country I suppose. It’s not to knock it down. It really is something quite grand in a small valley surrounded by trees.
The monastery and its beautiful grounds are wonderful! I especially enjoyed listening to the majestic pipe organ. The restaurants are amazing, and the gift shop is very interesting.
While the hotel is more of a hostel, really, there is a fantastic ambiance when staying at a centuries old abbey. The place was rebuilt extensively in the early 20th century, but still retains a solid medieval feeling, with solid stone walls and floors, wonderful oak doors and so on. It's worth a detour!
I come here every now and then to declutter my mind. The cool, calming and echoing Abbey is the place to decompress and reflect. Afterwards I love to visit the bookstore, which also has local jams, mustards and wines on offer. Not too far is the Abbey Nursery where you can find herbs and flowers for your garden. After all that shopping and walking you can call the day off at the Restaurant within the premises, that offers typical German bistro food. Not a bad half a day out.
We were here the fourth time this year and we never regret it. Stunning locstion and monastery with a good mixture of events and time to contemplate.
Try the beer and liquor from the shop, it's worth it. Also the sweets and breads from the bakery are tasty and from a good quality. Many of the things are made from whole grain and sour dough.
Further down you can shop herbs and plants for your own garden or you can have a walk through this beautiful location.
